Also a "turnaround"
The essay on the development of Clausewitz’s theory argues on three levels: the first is concerned with Clausewitz’s psychological disposition, which tended towards melancholy, and the importance of his close contact with his wife Marie, who was an irreplaceable conversation partner for him. The second level deals with Clausewitz’s criticism of the Enlightenment expectation that with greater education and the inclusion of the people in politics, wars would disappear over time, or at least be humanised. And the third level is about the most recent expectation of ‘making peace with fewer and fewer weapons’ and the disappointment of this expectation by the most recent wars. The main interest here is the question of the extent to which Clausewitz has integrated or modified the observation of a ‘turning point’ in history as a result of the revolutionary warfare of the French in his theory.
