Abstract
Western hybris, western failure
The assumption that democracy, and with it Western values and Western thinking, can be exported to countries with a completely different cultural background underestimates the importance of mental imprints in politics. Western democracy is based on a series of abstractions that have grown historically. Their implementation must fail where they are neither mentally anchored nor even wanted. The example of Afghanistan bears eloquent witness to this.
