Abstract
The jug goes to the well until it breaks: Brosius-Gersdorf's failed judicial election and political culture
The failed election of Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf as judge at the Federal Constitutional Court has significance beyond the personnel consequences. The causes of the lack of agreement lie in an erosion of informal norms that are essential for the functioning of democracy and, associated with this, in an inadequate understanding of rules that express the fundamental functional logic of political alliances and, in particular, government coalitions.
