The strategic securing of so-called critical or strategic raw materials has become increasingly important worldwide. Regions that were only potentially interesting for industrial mining for a long time are coming into focus. In Germany, the Saxon Ore Mountains are one of the raw material-rich potential regions that have been intensively explored for a long time to secure domestic raw materials for Germany and the EU. The raw material deposits there represent potentially strategic projects for domestic and foreign investors. To date, all companies with mining licenses come from Germany or Western countries. A Chinese rights holder or major investor is not included. 1 However, this could change in the future, raising (highly)political and legal questions about the handling of Chinese raw materials investments, which are part of the larger geopolitical raw materials competition between the West and China.
