Abstract

AbstractFew technologies will have a greater impact on the future of human flourishing and liberty than Digital Identity.Digital Identity is a technology that allows users to cryptographically prove the identity of a person, animal, plant, product, vehicle, transaction, or device. It is the technological basis for China’s much publicized “social credit score”. Many in the West mistakenly think that this technology is confined to Asia – when the largest adopters are the European Union and United States. This technology will embolden central planners, because it will give them unprecedented control over people and the economy. Alongside AI, it is the technology with the most potential for extreme abuse.Without strong free market alternatives, Digital ID might be used to destroy whatever freedom is left around the world.
